AI videos for ads: how to make them for a fraction of the cost
How an ad video is made with AI today, from the idea through visuals and voice to the edit. Simply, step by step, even for complete beginners.
An ad video used to mean a camera operator, an actor, a studio and weeks of work. Today we can produce much of it with artificial intelligence, in a fraction of the time and cost. It's not a trick or science fiction. It's a new way of working used by businesses and creators all over the world.
What AI can do today
- Write the script: ideas, copy, different versions of the opening.
- Create the visuals: photorealistic scenes, settings, products.
- Animate the visuals: turn a photo into a short video with camera movement.
- Voice the script: with a natural voice, in many languages.
- Create a character: an AI avatar that talks to camera.
- Help with editing and captions.
Not everything is perfect, and a human still decides the outcome. But production time shrinks from weeks to days.
What it looks like in practice: step by step
1. Idea and goal
First we define what the video should achieve and who it's for. For example: "We want parents to order a child car seat."
2. Script
A short ad video is usually 15–30 seconds. The structure is simple:
- Hook (first 2 seconds): a question or a surprise.
- Problem: what's bothering the customer.
- Solution: how your product helps.
- Call to action: what to do now.
3. Visuals
For each scene we create an image using AI image-generation tools. The key is keeping a consistent style: the same light, colors and character in every scene.
4. Motion
We animate the still images with AI video tools. Camera movement and gestures are added and the scene comes to life.
5. Voice and music
The script is voiced by an AI voice or a real person. We add music and sound effects.
6. Edit and captions
We put it all together, add captions (many people watch without sound) and prepare versions for different formats: vertical for Instagram and TikTok, square, and landscape for YouTube.
A sample from our workshop
On our homepage you'll find a short video about how marketing has changed over the last 30 years. Nobody filmed it: the character, scenes, voice and edit were all made with AI. We describe exactly how in How our AI reel was made.
Why AI videos are great for advertising
- More versions. Instead of one expensive video, you have ten and test which sells best.
- Speed. You can respond to a new trend or season within days.
- Cost. No studio, actors or travel needed.
What to watch out for
- Labeling. Ad platforms and EU rules require AI-generated content to be labeled in certain cases. More in Labeling AI content.
- Likeness rights. Never use a real person's face without their consent.
- Quality. A bad AI video looks cheap and puts people off. The eye and experience of the person making it make the difference.
Summary
AI videos don't replace creativity; they make it faster and cheaper to execute. For advertising that's a huge advantage: you can test more ideas and quickly find out which one sells. If you'd like AI videos for your brand, see our Graphics & AI video service.
